With over 14 years of operative experience and extensive training in Australia, Norway and Canada, Mr James Tunggal is renowned for his knowledge and expertise. He is an avid user of technology in surgery such as the use of custom-made instruments combined with navigation to provide truly personalised and patient-specific total knee replacements as well as robotic-assisted partial knee replacements.

For the last decade, Mr James Tunggal has been dedicated to the care of local patients across Noosa Hospital, Buderim Private Hospital, the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service as well as our Birtinya practice.

He continues to remain actively involved in teaching as a Senior Lecturer within the School of Medicine and Dentistry at Griffith University and the Director of Training for the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service for the advanced orthopaedic trainees of the Australian Orthopaedic Association.

Mr Tunggal studied medicine at the University of New South Wales and completed his advanced training in orthopaedic surgery on the Sydney Northside Orthopaedic Training Programme in 2008.

After undertaking a locum on the Sunshine Coast, he completed an advanced clinical fellowship in knee and shoulder arthroscopy at Ullevål University Hospital and the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Centre in Norway. He furthered his training with another fellowship in Hip and Knee Arthroplasty and Major Pelvic and Lower Limb Trauma at St Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada.

On his return in 2009, he made the permanent move from Sydney to call the Sunshine Coast home. He was appointed as a staff specialist at Nambour General Hospital and now the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service.
